Anyone who really knows my husband knows he likes to jest and even play pranks (nope, he’s not quiet or reserved). Well then, enter stage right: serious, focused, methodical (bordering on OCD), “C’mon people, let’s not waste a moment of eternity!” Olawunmi. Needless to say, the playful words “Uvie lea’e me oh” became quite common in our home as his wahala (teasing) made significant dents in my “serious girl” armour. I mean who has time to be laughing and shining teeth when there are souls perishing in the world?! 😂😂
So I asked God: “Honestly, what’s up with this? Why can’t your son be reserved and “English” like me?”😀 Ever patient and tolerant, he told me two things that I want to share with you.
1. He said: “Think how boring your home would be if you two were exactly alike.” Hmm, okay I hadn’t thought of that. I tried to imagine two of me in a marriage. Shudder. Solemn marriage 101. Not good.
2. Then He referred me to: “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” (Proverbs 27:17 NLT) That’s when I really saw it. Have you ever seen a butcher sharpening his knife? Then you would have noticed this: it is the friction, created as the two metals move together but in opposite directions, that sharpens. If two people always agree, always have the same ideas, always behave exactly the same way, then there’s no opportunity for growth. They will only ever see life from one perspective and their vision becomes myopic.
I have come to see that my husband’s light-heartedness makes up perfectly for my overly contemplative nature. Now when he playfully teases me, rather than complain I take it as a reminder from God to lighten up and enjoy life more. (But just a little bit sha; we don’t want to go overboard now, do we? 😄)
Love it! And yes we do need a bit of cheer in our lives ooo….. Thank God for our husbands 😃😄
